When a small plastic part snaps, the original is often discontinued or only sold as part of a whole new assembly. Layer By Layer Solutions is a Nelson based 3D printing service that makes custom replacement parts, so you can fix the one broken piece instead of replacing the whole thing.

How it works

If you already have a CAD file, send it through in STL, OBJ or STEP format and we will quote it within 24 hours.

Only have the broken part? That is fine. Send clear photos from a few angles, ideally next to a ruler, plus any measurements you can take, such as length, width, hole sizes and thickness. If the part is in pieces, photograph all of them together. Modelling a part from photos and measurements can be quoted, and you will see the price before anything is made.

Once you approve the quote, most orders are printed and dispatched in 48 to 96 hours. Any files you send us are kept strictly confidential.

Choosing the right material

We print with FDM filament only. The right material depends on where the part lives and what it does:

• PLA: good for indoor parts with light loads, like covers, knobs and organisers.

• PETG: tougher and a little flexible, a solid choice for clips, brackets and parts that get handled often or may get damp.

• ABS/ASA: better for heat and sunlight, so a good fit for car interior trims and parts used outdoors.
